In 2021, gas was the leading source of Africa's energy production, accounting for almost ** percent of the power generation. Coal followed with a share of around ** percent. In addition, hydropower contributed to ** percent of the total energy mix. Other energy sources, such as oil, solar, wind, and nuclear sources accounted for lower shares of the continent's generation mix in that year.
