The proportion of total health expenditure that was government financed in Turkey increased during the recorded period, reaching **** percent in 2020. This is most likely due to the government's ten-year health system aimed at universal health coverage which was introduced in 2003. This is also reflected in the increase in the population covered under government health insurance. In 2021, the ratio of the government and private health expenditure stayed the same as in 2020. However, in 2023, this ratio decreased to **** percent.
