As of March 2024, Japan Railways' Tohoku Shinkansen was the longest high-speed railway line in the network, adding up to an operating length of around kilometers. The Tohoku Shinkansen runs from Tokyo to Aomori in Aomori Prefecture, located on Japan's northeastern seacoast of the main island.
