Electric power sector: An energy-consuming sector that consists of electricity only and combined heat and power(CHP) plants whose primary business is to sell electricity, or electricity and heat, to the public--i.e., North American Industry Classification System 22 plants
Coal includes anthracite, bituminous coal, subbituminous coal, lignite, waste coal, and synthetic coal. Petroleum includes distillate fuel oil (all diesel and No. 1, No. 2, and No. 4 fuel oils), residual fuel oil (No. 5 and No. 6 fuel oils and bunker C fuel oil), jet fuel, kerosene, petroleum coke, waste oil, and propane gas.

The electric power industry in Texas produced emitted more than *** million metric tons of carbon dioxide (MtCO2) in 2020. Emissions from coal-fired electric power in Texas totaled ** MtCO2, while natural gas power emitted *** MtCO2 - higher than any other state. Texas is by far the largest natural gas producer in the U.S. Florida's electric power industry was the second-largest CO2 emitter in the U.S. in 2020, with natural gas as the primary source of emissions in the state.
