Gender violence comes in many forms, such as verbal, physical, and psychological. Among some experts, a form of psychological violence is the discrimination of women due to the expectations related to their role in society and in the family. This representation is relatively common in the entertainment sector, such as in the media and adverts. Some representations of women found in the media show strong gender role stereotypes, disrespecting female dignity. According to a survey conducted among young Italians, the image of women that prevails in media and advertising is that of an objectified figure, represented as successful only when good-looking and, ultimately, still in that stereotypical role of mother and housekeeper.
