In early 2019, the French senate approved the fusion of the French Agency for Biodiversity (Agence française pour la biodiversité - AFB) and the National Office for Hunting and Wildlife (Office national de la chasse et de la faune sauvage - ONCFS). As a result, hunters' federations are now classified as associations for the protection of nature.
In 2021, almost 80 percent of French people believed that hunting associations could do even more in regards to the preservation of nature in France. Furthermore, 11 percent declared not knowing enough or not having a concrete opinion about this topic.
