All major cities in Germany with a a population of 100,000 or more were evaluated across five categories on a scale of 0 to100: Administration, Information and communiction technology, energy and environment, Mobility, and Society.
In 2021, the leading German smart city was Hamburg with an index score of 88.13. Different German cities were examined under different axes such as administration, information, environment, mobility, and society in the previous year. These five axes shared themselves 38 various indicators to have the most accurate index possible and resulting in a smart city index. As a comparison, Berlin had an index of 70.25, whereas Munich stood at 72.74.
