On February 25, 2021, the British auction house Christie's officially launched a one-lot sale of the digital artwork "Everydays: The First 5000 Days" by American artist Mike Winkelmann, known as Beeple. In total, ** active bidders took part in the sale. About ** percent of them were Millennials. In contrast, only percent of potential buyers were Baby Boomers. The piece - eventually sold on March 11, 2021, for the astonishing price of **** million U.S. dollars - is a digital artwork, also referred to as "crypto art". It is possible to prove the authenticity of such digital works using blockchain technologies and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). These are unique codes that can be assigned to any kind of digital format. This way, even if copies of a digital artwork are shared online, it is possible to determine the original file.
