A study conducted in December 2020 considered that poverty in Tunisia would increase after the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Within a pessimistic scenario, where Tunisia's gross domestic product (GDP) contracted by **** percent, the share of the population living below the national poverty line would reach **** percent, compared to around ** percent before the pandemic. Moreover, the extreme poverty rate would also increase significantly from some percent to nearly ** percent.
