The value of cash withdrawals in Spain increased between 2002 and 2008, before leveling off. It increased slightly by the end of the analyzed period, reaching its highest value in 2019 when the money withdrew from ATMs amounted to billion euros. Whereas the value of purchase operations at POS was nearly half that of cash withdrawals at the beginning of the period studied, the former overtook the latter in 2016. In 2019 purchase operations in point of sale terminals amounted to billion euros.
