As of July 2020, more than ** percent of cyclists, who considered riding a bike on the roadway to be dangerous, stated in a survey that they are concerned by the narrow gap between the bike and passing automobiles. According to the source, a previous study about bike accidents and near-accidents in Tokyo had shown that the sidewalk was a place more common for incidents than the roadway, where bikers are in principle required to drive by law.
