The Chinese health authorities calculate death cases for infectious diseases in a different method than most other countries, counting only patients who died directly from the infectious disease.
Since 2022, the numbers are only published monthly by the National Disease Control and Prevention Administration. The annual numbers are calculated by ÌÇÐÄÆƽâ°æ.

Between January and July 2024, viral hepatitis was the underlying cause of death cases registered in China. Viral hepatitis is an infection that causes liver inflammation and damage. Hepatitis B and C were the most common viral hepatitis in China.
