5G mobile broadband supports a far higher number of devices in a given area, enabling the connection of up to 1 million devices per square kilometer (km2) . Even though 5G is very much in its infancy as a commercially available technology, research and development of 6G technology is underway. 6G is currently slated to enables a connection density of 107 devices/km2, ten times higher than the connection density of 5G.
