In 2019, the tertiary education institutions in Ghana that had the highest number of staff with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) qualification were public universities, which also had the most academic staff who held a Masters degree whether research or non-research oriented.
Furthermore, private universities and colleges had more Masters degree holders than PhD or other. Nursing and midwifery training colleges and Health Training Institutions (NMTCs/HTIs) registered a low number of staff with a degree higher than bachelors compared to other institutions, and the number of faculty members with a Bachelor of Science degree was relatively high.
