The number of automated meter readers in the United States has been declining following a greater rollout of advanced metering infrastructure. In 2023, there were 22.7 million automated meters in the country, down from more than 45 million meters a decade earlier. In comparison, there were beyond 127 million advanced meters installed in the U.S. at the time.
