The Gay Travel Index 2020 measured 17 categories such as anti-discrimination legislation, transgender rights, anti-gay laws, and death penalty in 202 countries or territories. Category scores range from 3 to -5. The general score for each country corresponds to the total points obtained for all categories. The best rated countries in the global ranking that year were Canada, Malta, and Sweden (12 points) while Chechnya got the lowest index score (-20 points).
