The most common cause of pipeline incidents in Alberta, Canada is internal corrosion. Some ** percent of all incidents were due to corrosion of the (mostly) steel pipes from within. External corrosion and construction deficiency were the two other main incident causes.

Pipelines overseen by the Alberta Energy Regulator had released more then *** cubic meters of liquid on separate occasions in 2018.
