In 2024, the physical activity industry in China was valued at approximately billion U.S. dollars, denoting an increase of around *** percent from the previous year.
Owing to an increasing disposable income in recent years, more and more people in China have started to embrace a healthier lifestyle by participating in working out. When surveyed by in December 2025, it was found that ** percent of individuals in China had a gym membership, which was more than any other Asian market in the survey. In the same study, LEFIT ranked as the most popular gym chain in China, with over ** percent of gym-goers saying they had a membership with the brand.
Among leading Asian markets, China is somewhat of an outlier when it comes to demographics. Firstly, *** year olds have a larger share of gym-goers than any other age group, which was not the case for countries such as India and Indonesia. Secondly, there were significantly more women than men in China who have a membership with a fitness studio as of 2025, which was the opposite case in other leading markets.
