The Bank of Tanzania monitors economic developments at micro-level basing on six zones: Central (Dodoma, Morogoro, Singida, and Tabora regions), Dar es Salaam, South Eastern (Ruvuma, Coast, Lindi, and Mtwara regions), Lake (Geita, Kagera, Kigoma, Mara, Mwanza, Shinyanga, and Simiyu), Northern (Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Manyara, and Tanga), and Southern Highlands (Iringa, Katavi, Mbeya, Njombe, Rukwa, and Songwe).

Share of minerals recovered in Tanzania 2023, by geographical zone
As of December 2023, the Lake zone in Tanzania was responsible for 60.2 percent of minerals recovered in the country. In the fourth quarter of that year, the total value of mineral recovery in Tanzania was roughly 815 million U.S. dollars. The Lake zone, where the five main Tanzanian gold mines are located, accounted for 490.9 million U.S. dollars.
