* In the Polish education system, the matura exam is formally known as 鈥渕atura鈥 (egzamin maturalny). The matura exam is taken at the end of high school education, generally in May, with retakes available in August. This exam is not mandatory; however, Polish pupils are required to pass it to apply for higher education studies at Polish universities. The matura results are expressed as percentages. To pass the matura exam, candidates must score at least 30% in each of the 3 compulsory exams. The additional exam results are used when applying for higher education studies.
