The source adds the following information: "The total fertility rate (TFR) is calculated by summing the age-specific fertility rates (ASFRs) calculated for each of the five-year age groups of women, from age 15 through to age 49".
The Northern region of Ghana had the highest total fertility rate in the country, at 5.2, in 2018. The indicator expresses the average number of children born by one woman while being of child-bearing age.
Moreover, women in the same region also revealed the lowest use of modern contraceptives. In contrast, the Greater Accra region had the lowest fertility rate in Ghana, at 3.2.
