In 2023, the biotechnology and healthcare sector overtook the ITC sector as the most sought after sector for venture capital investments in the Netherlands. Reaching a value of over *** million euros, investments into financial services were approximately ** percent higher than in the previous year. Venture capital mostly refers to money invested into young companies that are not listed on the stock exchange. Start-up investments are the most known part of this, but this can also include (angel) seed investments or early stage ventures. Typically, Amsterdam is considered to have a smaller startup scene than other European capital cities.
