Sumitomo Chemical in Japan announced a sales revenue forecast of 2,3 trillion yen for the fiscal year 2020, a decline of 80 billion Japanese yen compared to the previous forecast published in October 2019. The forecast for the operating income in the same year decreased by approximately 23.5 percent compared to the previous reporting.
Founded in 1913 and headquartered in Tokyo and Osaka, Sumitomo Chemical is a Japanese chemical company operating in several business sectors such as the health and crop science, pharmaceutical and energy industries.

In the forecast revision report, the company states the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) as one of several reasons for the revised numbers, among other factors such as a slowdown in shipments due to extreme weather conditions.
