According to a survey conducted by , around ** percent of the Malaysian respondents stated that they strongly supported a ban on stores and restaurants selling endangered species of fish in order to curb overfishing. In contrast, only *** percent stated they strongly opposed this. Malaysia is the biggest seafood consumer in Southeast Asia and the fisheries sector plays an important role to the national economy. However, Malaysia's marine natural resources are currently declining due to overfishing and illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
