The study covers more than 600,000 hectares of the 750,000 hectares of French vineyards, approximately 80% of the total area. Some vineyards were excluded from the scope of the study. These are Champagne, Cognac and Armagnac and micro-vineyards.

In 2015, the Bordeaux vineyards had the most foreign owners with almost *** estates. There are very few foreign investors in the northern half of France with only about ** in Bourgogne-Beaujolais and less than ** in the Val de Loire.
