Spending time in nature was the second most popular reason that year, chosen by nearly half of the respondents. On the contrary, just around ** percent of the survey sample hiked to meet new people. Hiking is considered a form of ecotourism, a type of tourism focusing on aspects such as environmental sustainability and respect for local cultures and traditions.
