Soda ash – also known as sodium carbonate – is an alkali chemical that is a white, water-soluble salt. In 2025, the United States had some billion metric tons of natural soda ash reserves from trona, nahcolite, and dawsonite deposits. The world's total reserves of natural soda ash amounted to approximately ** billion metric tons that year, making the United States the largest holder of soda ash reserves worldwide.
