Natural gas imports reached Italy mainly through two pipelines: the Trans Austria Gas (TAG) pipeline and the Trans-Mediterranean (TransMed) gas pipeline, which supplied **** and **** billion cubic meters to the country in 2018, respectively.
These pipelines brought gas from Russia and Algeria, which were Italy's main suppliers. In total, Italy had eight entry points for natural gas imports. As of October 2019, the construction works for an additional one, the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), were **% completed.
