The biblical story of the Great Flood is told in the book of Genesis, Chapters 6-8. In this story, God decides to flood the earth in order to kill all of humanity as he is disappointed with how wicked they have become. However, God chooses Noah and his family as "righteous" people, and tasks Noah with building an Ark large enough to hold at least two of every kind of animal, the eight people in his family, and enough food for all the people and animals.

The Ark

God ordered that the ark itself was to measure 300 x 50 x 30 cubits. A cubit is an ancient unit of measurement based on the length from one's elbow to the tip of the middle finger - due to the lack of a standard measurement, it is not possible to accurately convert ancient specifications with confidence. However, in modern times, a cubit is generally taken to be 18 inches, or 46 centimeters. Using this conversion, the ark would measure approximately 450 x 75 x 45 in feet, or 135 x 23 x 14 in meters.
