The Rabo Bankieren online banking app was used nearly times more than ABN AMRO's solution, whereas daily usage of ING's app decreased in 2019. This estimate is possible thanks to figures provided by Airnow PLC. The ING Bankieren app reached the highest average of daily active users (DAU) throughout 2018, topping a ranking consisting of other apps like Rabo Bankieren of Rabobank and Mobiel Bankieren from ABN AMRO. This should not come as a surprise, as these banks are the biggest of the country in terms of asset value.

Online banking: increasingly popular among all age groups

No numbers are available on how many users exactly use online banking, be it on desktop or on mobile. However, ** percent of Dutch individuals between 18 and 25 years indicated that they used internet banking for private use. This was roughly ** percent for people older than 75 years, even though this percentage increased significantly over the years. It should be noted that certain Dutch banking apps have integrated mobile payment options, which may add to their use.

Online banks from the Netherlands: Bunq

A notable inclusion in this list is that of Bunq, an online-only bank which uses an app that connects online banking with social activities as can be found in an application like WhatsApp. In 2018, the online bank made a loss  of over *** million euros with the company founder investing some of his own money to compensate for the losses. This does not mean the Fintech startup is doing badly, though, as the company's income from deposits made by their clients increased to approximately *** million euros in 2018.
