The total losses related to online banking fraud in Norway in 2022 amounted to over *** million Norwegian kroner. Nearly *** million kroner of these were lost in cases where the fraudster manipulated the payer into issuing the payment order. The total amount lost in online frauds increased significantly since 2018.
Payment card fraud
Losses due to payment card fraud in Norway grew steadily from 2013 to 2016, but was lower in the following years, before peaking in 2022. A high number of all the frauds were cases where the payment was initiated electronically.Global payment card frauds
Worldwide, the total amount lost in fraudulent payment transactions was predicted to reach over ** billion U.S. dollars in 2021 and is expected to increase over the coming years. Debit cards was the payment method that saw the highest involvement in fraud around the world.
