In 2018/19 there were more female NHS dentists in England than male for the first time in the provided time period, and this trend has continued since then coming to over ** thousand female dentists and over ** thousand male dentists in 2023/24. The overall increase in the number of dentists in NHS has been driven solely by increase in female dentists. On the other hand the number of male dentists has been declining slightly over the time period shown.
