Independence Day in Mexico is an important national holiday officially celebrated on ****. Festivities start the evening before, when the president of Mexico re-enacts the "Grito de Independencia", an historical event that is considered the beginning of the independence movement. Celebrations include music, fireworks and lots of traditional food. In 2018, **** percent of participants in a telephone interview were planning to celebrate this holiday by taking part in a gathering or party at home. In contrast, around *** percent had the intention to join the festivities by watching the event on TV.
