Independence Day in Mexico is an important national holiday officially celebrated on **. In 2018, **** percent of participants in a telephone interview declared taking part of the festivities, up from 2016 when only **** percent declared celebrating the holiday.
This day's festivities start the previous evening, when the president of Mexico re-enacts the "Grito de Independencia", an historical event that is considered the beginning of the independence movement. Celebrations include music, fireworks and lots of traditional food.
