Compared to the rest of the ASEAN region, Thailand was the leading motor vehicle producing country as of 2023. The country’s production surpassed Indonesia and Malaysia in production volume.

In recent years, Thailand’s automotive industry has become one of the largest in Southeast Asia. It has produced many types of vehicles which were developed and licensed by foreign producers. Passenger cars and pickup trucks took the top share of vehicle production in Thailand in 2023, as a result of government tax policies and a high demand for multipurpose automotive. Even though Ford was one of the first automotive brands to enter the Thai vehicle market, Toyota took the leading market share in vehicle production in 2022.

With the significant inflow and outflow of automotive trading, Thailand’s export value of automotive products has expanded throughout the years, contributing to a global market of more than vehicle component types. Vehicle parts and accessories were also a great contributor to the automotive industry, with the export value in 2023 amounting to over ** billion Thai baht.
