India was the second largest producer of tasar silk, and the only producer of Indian tasar, which is largely harvested by tribal communities. About *** thousand metric tons of yarn from this variety of silk was produced in the south Asian country in fiscal year 2023. Although, sarees were the most important product, it was also used for handicrafts, furnishing fabrics and stitched apparel.
