KDDI Corporation is a Japanese telecommunications operator and headquartered in Chiyoda ward in Tokyo. The company was originally established in 1953 as KDD (Kokusai Denshin Denwa Co., Ltd.) and developed into the form of today through a merger in 2000 with DDI Corporation and IDO Corporation. Part of the Fortune Global 500, it is one of the largest telecommunication providers in Asia. In fiscal year 2019, KDDI had an  operating income of around **** trillion Japanese yen. 

Services

KDDI offers a variety of services, including internet and mobile phone services, fixed-line communication, and IT-services such as outsourced data center management and office security.  The corporation has several subsidiaries such as KDDI America and KDDI Global and currently offers global networks in over *** countries. With offices in over ** cities worldwide, the number of employees amounted to approximately ** thousand people as of fiscal year 2019. KDDI has collaborated with multiple companies such as the Taiwanese manufacturer HTC Corporation, MPT (Myanmar Post and Telecommunication), and Ericsson.

Using the former networks of DDI and IDO, KDDI developed its mobile phone company and cellular services brand au by KDDI in 2000. Au launched a nationwide 3G network in 2003 and LTE service in 2012 and became one of the most popular carriers in Japan. Au also provides security and entertainment services such as au Smart Pass, giving users download access to hundreds of applications. In 2019, KDDI held ** percent of the total mobile phone subscriptions in Japan.
