For newborn Finnish-speaking boys, Leo was the most given first name during that year. Väinö, a short form of Väinämöinen from Finnish myth, was the second most popular, with *** registrations. Other favored first names for newborn boys in Finland during this period included Oliver, Eeli, and Leevi.
Finland's aging population
The change in age structure results primarily from the baby boom following World War II. The population growth slowed down after the 1960's, and since then, the crude birth rate has fallen from **** to *** per 1,000 inhabitants. As a result, the number of deaths has surpassed the number of births in the past few years. At the same time, the life expectancy of women in Finland has reached around years, which is approximately five years more than for Finnish men.
