In 2015, South Africa's AB de Villiers set the record for the fastest one-day international (ODI) century of all time - he took just 31 balls to reach the milestone in a match against the West Indies in Johannesburg. As of January 2025, this record still stood.

Who is the leading run-scorer in ODI history?

Despite not being in the top 10 list for fastest ODI centuries, Indian batting great Sachin Tendulkar tops numerous batting records for both 50 over and test cricket. With over 18 thousand runs scored in his white ball career, Tendulkar is the leading all-time ODI run-scorer by a significant margin, with second-placed Kumar Sangakkara having scored over four thousand runs less. However, another ODI record does not hold is the most hundreds scored in ODI history, with fellow Indian Virat Kohli breaking Tendulkar’s record during the 2023 Cricket World Cup.

Among the most recent innings of the quickest ODI centuries was Australian Glenn Maxwell’s ton against the Netherlands, which came during the 2023 Cricket World Cup. In that edition of the tournament, Australia went on to secure its sixth World Cup title, beating hosts India in the final. Despite India falling at the final hurdle, a record 1.25 million spectators were in attendance, which exceeded the previous attendance record at an International Cricket Council event by over 200 thousand.
