Postal services worldwide have been actively changing in the past decade. International letter delivery dropped by just under 14 percent between 2019 and 2020 after steadily decreasing since 2011. In contrast, the parcel market has been booming. Its growth was accelerated by the hike in e-commerce sales worldwide due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Swiss postal services mirror the trends observed in the global market and neighboring countries. Some three billion letters were delivered in Switzerland in 2021 and remained strong in 2022. Despite this, the overall volume constituted a decrease of 100 million year-over-year and 22 percent compared to 2014. In contrast, parcel deliveries increased by ten percent year-over-year, up to 329 million packages. Swiss Post鈥攁 public company owned by the Swiss Confederation and Switzerland鈥檚 national postal service鈥攄elivered some 1.7 billion addressed letters and 194 million parcels in 2022, making it the postal service market leader in Switzerland.
