Consorzio Nazionale Dettaglianti, also known as Conad, has been revolutionizing the Italian grocery landscape since its founding in 1962. Starting as a cooperative of small retailers with the intent to collectively manage the supply and purchase of food, beverages, and consumer goods, it became the second largest food retailer in Italy. Today, Conad operates a total of 3,331 stores with close to 78,000 employees. The whole consortium consists of five cooperatives: Pac 200A, Conad Nord Ovest, Commercianti Indipendenti Associati, Conad Adriatico, and Conad Centro Nord, which unite altogether 2,167 retailers.
