Australia is, comparatively speaking, a sparsely populated country. It’s geographically a similar size to the united States of America, yet the population is a fraction of the size; as of 2022, Australia’s population was just over 26 million and the U.S. population was slightly more than 333 million. The population centers are located predominantly in the east and southeastern areas of the country, with New South Wales, Victoria, and Queensland being the states with the highest population.
