Comic books in France - statistics & facts
France has established itself as one of the pillars of the comic book industry for almost a century, both in terms of consumption and production. While the sales volume of comic books has been rising steadily since 2010, the market recorded a record-breaking boom in 2021, reaching almost 90 comic titles sold that year. Despite remaining above pre-pandemic levels, however, sales have dropped sharply since then. Comics of all forms are still massively popular among French readers; almost half of French people reported reading comics in 2025, making it the third most read format.
