Tourism in the Balearic and Canary Islands - statistics & facts
For many travelers—especially European ones—Spain evokes sun, beaches, and mild temperatures. For instance, the country’s most visited autonomous communities are usually beach destinations, among which are its two archipelagos: the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands. The Balearics are located in the Mediterranean Sea, more than 75 kilometers from the coast of Catalonia and the Valencian Community. On the other hand, the Canary Islands are a volcanic archipelago in the North Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Morocco. Each of these autonomous communities received more than 15 million international tourists in 2024, while around 3.4 million domestic tourists headed to the Mediterranean destination and two million more to the Atlantic islands.
