Transport industry in Belgium – statistics & facts
Road transport accounts for about 75 percent of Belgium's inland freight transport. Much of the remaining share can be attributed to inland waterways. Belgium is home to Antwerp, Europe's second-largest cargo port, and is well-positioned between two of Europe’s economic powerhouses: Germany and France. The volume of maritime cargo handled at the Port of Antwerp peaked in 2019 and dipped slightly in 2020.
