Music market in Norway - statistics & facts
In recent years, the revenue of the Norwegian music market overall increased, reaching more than 5.4 billion Norwegian kroner in 2019. In 2020, the industry saw a sharp decline, likely related to the coronavirus pandemic of 2020, reaching 3.5 billion kroner from which the industry has not yet recovered. Recorded music accounted for the highest share of the total music market value in 2021, at 37 percent. Most of the concert revenue came from ticket sales. While the live music revenue and share of Norwegians visiting a concert, music festival or other live music event had increased significantly over the years leading up to 2020, those numbers experienced a sharp decrease in 2020 and 2021 due to the cancellation of most in-person events to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
