The Cleveland Guardians are a Major League Baseball franchise based in Cleveland, Ohio who compete as a member of American League Central Division. The franchise was founded in 1900 under the name Cleveland Lake Shores and, following several name changes, became the Cleveland Indians in 1915. This name remained until after the 2021 season, when the team ceased using the Native American moniker and rebranded as the Guardians ahead of the 2022 season. The team has won two World Series titles, 11 division titles and six American League pennants. The Guardians are owned by former attorney Lawrence J. Dolan, who acquired the franchise for around 323 million U.S. dollars from Richard Jacobs in 2003.
