Meat consumption is widespread in China. On average, Chinese consume around 45 kg of meat per year. Although this figure is lower than most of the developed countries, China remains the largest meat market in the world due to its sizable population. Pork is the most popular type of meat, with China’s annual pork consumption accounting for more than 46 percent of the global total. In recent years, consumer preferences for meat have evolved, while pork continues to prevail in the market.
