Europe is home to some of the largest retail economies in the world, with retail trade in the top three EU countries, Germany, France, and Italy accounting for almost 1.8 trillion euros in total in 2023. Germany, the strongest economic power in the union accounted for more than 830 billion euros alone. Despite the strong growth in online retail sales across the continent, physical shop presence is still significant and shopping centers are key areas of retail real estate. The average annual prime retail rental growth reached 5.6 percent in the United Kingdom and more than three percent in Europe, after years of struggle due to major global economic factors.
