With Grand Slam tournaments spanning three continents - Europe, North America, and Australia - professional tennis certainly throws this into relief. However, like any sport, passion for tennis is not distributed equally across the world, with some countries having a higher proportion of fans than others. As of 2023, the country with the highest share of tennis fans was Spain, with nearly a third of the Spanish population following the sport regularly.

From grassroots to Grand Slam: how many people play tennis around the world?
In 2024, it was estimated that there were 106 million individuals worldwide who played tennis. This was 26 percent higher than five years previously. Meanwhile, the global regions with the highest share of tennis players in the same period were Asia, Europe, and North America, respectively; in total, around one third of all tennis players were believed to have been based in Asia. However, when it came to the regional distribution of tennis clubs, North America took the number one spot, accounting for 37 percent of all tennis clubs worldwide. With an increased interest in tennis also comes the desire to engage with the sport in ways that do not just involve playing it. One form this has taken is sports betting, with tennis ranking high in the list of preferred sports to bet on in the U.S. as of November 2024. Meanwhile, around 60 percent of tennis fans in the United Kingdom bet on the sport at least once a month as of July 2025.
